Solomiya Brannman

Solomiya throughout the first portion of her life, grew up in Sweden where her love for reading, school and the help of her parents fostered a love for social science research. After her move to the United States, she continued her academic pursuits and passions at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she received a B.S. in Family Science and Sociology in May 2024. Throughout her undergraduate career, Solomiya developed an interest in family demography as well as maternal and child health. Her personal research ventures cover topics addressing partner formation, declining marriage rates, and gender studies but she has also worked on projects discussing the life-course perspective in relation to maternal and child health and topics addressing the improvement of fertility outcomes. During her undergraduate experience, Solomiya also worked with victims of domestic violence and individuals struggling with mental illness to help them navigate their daily lives. In the future, Solomiya hopes to continue her career in academia by returning to school and pursuing a Ph.D. in Demography/ Sociology with hopes of spending the rest of her life conducting research.

Now, at FRI, Solomiya works as a Research Assistant on the NIDA-funded study comparing the effectiveness of extended-release naltrexone and extended-release buprenorphine as a treatment for opioid use disorder in individuals leaving jails.
