After graduating from The University of St Andrews in Scotland with a degree in Theological Studies in 2009, Rachel spent the next few years working and volunteering in Camden, New Jersey with at risk youth and homeless populations. After her experience working with vulnerable populations, Rachel earned her Master of Social Work from Temple University in 2015 and subsequently worked as a behavioral health clinician with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.
Rachel made the career shift to research when she joined FRI as the Research Coordinator for CTN-0101 Subthreshold Opioid Use Disorder Prevention (STOP) study with Dr. Karen Alexander. Rachel moved on to be the Project Manager for Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction with African American Caregivers (MBSR-AAC), working closely with Dr. Alexander and Dr. Steven Carswell on a study that created an innovative mindfulness smartphone app that uses mindfulness techniques to reduce stress in caregivers of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). Rachel is currently the Project Manager working with Dr. Alexander on a pilot study to develop and evaluate a support person training program targeting recovery capital for postpartum women with OUD.
