Nicole Golabi

Nicole has spent their whole life in Maryland, growing up in Montgomery County before moving to Baltimore to pursue both their academic and professional careers. As an undergrad, they took several criminology classes which ignited their passion for social and carceral justice and ended up focusing their honors thesis on wrongfully incarcerated individuals. After spending a gap year as a research assistant for a biopsychology emotions lab, they returned to work on their master’s at Towson. Their research focuses on reproductive rights within and around carceral settings, and more specifically, the complex intersectional issues of racism, classism, sexism, and other systematic injustices surrounding incarceration and the American criminal justice system.

At FRI, Nicole works as a Research Assistant for the NIDA-funded study comparing sublingual and extended-release buprenorphine (BRIXADI) for individuals leaving jail in hopes to reduce relapse to opioid use, re-incarceration, and opioid overdoses, as well as improve the quality of life for patients.
