Kevin Nock, CPRS, CPRS-F, RPS, CHW
It took Kevin over thirty-years to surrender and stay abstinent from drugs and alcohol. Once Kevin realized that he needed to address his mental health in order to stay abstinent along with the help of a support network, he found out that achieving ongoing recovery wasn’t as hard anymore. Kevin found out about peer classes and became a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist. His first job was with Recovery Network as an outreach worker where he discovered a passion for helping people who were just like him. Kevin later worked as a Registered Peer Supervisor and then a Forensic Peer Specialist. Kevin also became a WRAP facilitator: WRAP was and is still helpful in his ongoing recovery. Kevin started working for Baltimore Crisis Response, where he became the first peer to work on Law Enforcement Assistance Diversion (LEAD). That enabled him to assist in diverting people from going to jail, to getting their basic needs met, like health care, food, a bus pass, and clothing. It was very rewarding to help people to work towards changing the condition they were in, and even more rewarding to see that person doing well months later.
Kevin currently works for The Maryland Office of The Public Defender. He started in the Forensic Mental Health Division, where he helped people who were detained to get released and assisted with resources help them to make changes in their lives cut down recidivism. Kevin now works in community engagement reentry at The Office of The Public Defender where he meets with clients to do a non-clinical screening to determine eligibility for substance abuse and or mantal health treatment as well as other community resources.
