FRI congratulates Drs. Thomas Blue, Michael Gordon, and Frank Vocci on their research on extended-release buprenorphine use in carceral settings being featured in the March 2026 JCOIN newsletter. Their two published papers provide valuable insights into how extended-release buprenorphine can be effectively initiated during incarceration. Conducted across multiple Maryland jails, this work offers important guidance for correctional systems and presents evidence supporting extended-release buprenorphine as a practical, patient-centered medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) in justice settings—addressing both operational challenges and patient experience.
