A Maryland native and Eastern Shore local, Julia received her formal sociological training in Tampa, Florida. During her undergraduate career, she studied environmental injustices surrounding locations of toxic waste sites in underprivileged neighborhoods. She connected this data to reported health issues in the same zip codes and visualized this data through the use of ArcGIS software. As a graduate student, Julia studied the presence of the culture of capitalism narrative in green business stories and the ways in which it is utilized to legitimize themselves within a capitalistic economic structure focused on profit.
At FRI, Julia is currently working with Drs. Robert Schwartz and Shannon Gwin Mitchell on a multi-site study examining interim methadone implementation and with Dr. Laura Monico on a pilot project involving young adults with opioid use disorder and their parents/caregivers.
