Research Interests

Gustavo Guzman Canizalez received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Texas at El Paso. His research interests include health related problems that affect underserved and border communities.

At FRI, Gustavo is working as a Research Assistant with Dr. Shannon Gwin Mitchell and Dr. Laura Monico on the Examining the Effectiveness of the FaCES Adolescent SBIRT study, which seeks to test the effectiveness of Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) for adolescents in primary care to reduce and prevent substance use. He is currently working on study recruitment and follow-up in one of the New Mexico clinic site locations.
