Research Interests

Alina grew up in Southern California just 30 minutes out of Los Angeles, earning her undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in addiction science from the University of Southern California (USC).

Alina’s research interests include substance use etiology and maintenance, and the development of culturally informed interventions for substance abuse. She has worked with researchers from the University of Maryland and collaborated closely with FRI staff since 2023 on a NIDA-funded R34 study focusing on reducing stigma in individuals living with HIV and using substances. Alina also donates her time as a volunteer research assistant at USC, recently contributing to a NIAA R01 aimed at converting estimates of transdermal alcohol content to estimates of breath alcohol content.

Alina is currently pursuing an MS in Addiction Science at USC and hopes to become a Ph.D. candidate in Clinical Psychology.
